Thalidomide! Was That safe?

In the 1950s, Thalidomide was prescribed by doctors for pregnant women as a treatment for morning sickness. Advertisements claimed that it was completely safe, with no adverse effects for mother or unborn child. It was five years before it was understood and acknowledged that the drug was causing massive damage to babies in their mothers’ wombs.
